Handsome Billy is 7 years old and is part french donkey poitou – he looks like a highland cow!
The Baudet du Poitou donkey is one of the largest working breeds, and now extremely rare so we are delighted to have our lovely Billy here with us. The Baudet has a distinctive coat, which hangs in long, ungroomed dreadlocks. Naturally, Billy’s coat takes a lot of looking after, especially as he loves to roll in his bedding and also in his large dust-bath!  As he is only part poitou he’s not the biggest of our donkeys but he does have adorable chunky legs and a big woolly head. He is a quiet, friendly and sweet donkey but loves to play fight with his pal Jack just like a teenager! They share the Batchelor Pad and he has really helped calm our lothario Jack down since he arrived, though he is still a lot more shy than his room-mate! Sadly his previous owner couldn’t afford to keep him, so he was surrendered to our care, and he is a lovely addition to our herd.
Sponsoring Billy costs only £40 for the year, which can be paid in one payment or £4.00 a month direct debit. It’s up to you!
In return you will receive a welcome email, your downloadable Sponsorship Certificate and a digital photo of him, plus a voucher for entry to one or all of our open days here at Durham Donkey Rescue for the duration of your sponsorship,  where you will get the opportunity to meet and hug Billy and his companions.
